The Syrupy Luxury of My Blood

Let me tell you 'bout the world and the way things are.

The tigers come at night with their voices soft as thunder;

they stuck me up there and said "strike me a pose." But I know

this innocent who wears my face who goes to judgement in my place

can go where you're gonna but don't get in my way.

I know a place where no one's lost, I know a place where

there is a place we'll go where there is mostly quiet.

Travel's a curse but here we strive to lighten your purse.

What would I do if I could suddenly feel

crumbs of humble piety tough on the teeth, but what

within your heart you'll know that no one can change

crime and the price you had to pay

as opposed to payin' dues.

Had you been there tonight you might know how it feels

and feel the hope that we've been waiting on

when the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the

reason why I should stay and I'll judge it

a grief that can't be spoken. There's a pain goes on

the path that you must go.

Life has dealt me some terrible blows.

Everybody look up

and only the moon looks down.
