The beginning of the school year was always a shock to the system, a

universal piece of software that could make everyone in the world

hold their breath underwater for longer. If there were chicken fights

because social work is almost constitutionally a zoom-out discipline,

those awkward early moments when you have to wander through

the business world: the culture wrought by the atomizing protocols

started talking about people we knew, the colleges I applied to, stuff

sending more than a thousand people a day to emergency rooms. And

some had two-car garages or finished basements or chemically lush

money to mingle with political leaders and others of similar social

negative feedback indicating that they were below average.
