With Savage Little Jabs

The dark apertures of the doors, one side shut.

There the troubled are calm; there the exhausted rest.

Some may feel confused about the differences between them.

There was someone on the other side of the gorse bush, watching

tattered rags gather dung and wood shavings for fuel.

But cliffs fall to the ground; boulders crumble away;

it is only approximate because of one other real-world

agreement, except for a general agreement to arm themselves

--the science of coaxing out bloodstains. For centuries

you made me your target and burdened me with myself?

Back to our Homo sapiens ancestors: their newly acquired

troubles with the difference in their historical periods.

Such critical wonder has zeroed in most aggressively on

the names of the four rivers that flow from Eden.

Your guilt must be great indeed; your crimes must be

the top rung of the Ladder of Causation.
