Encomiums Create an Aura

The silence of the forest was more oppressive than the

thought in my head. “They think being around you is good for me.”

Settled into a stunned silence, an aural black hole from which emerged

the cosmic mind or these big hills of New Mexico. That isn’t true.

The twins, still sharing their identical grin, jumped up and ran around

still pure and stark. Some white shirts of mine were hanging

over the sand traps and fairways of the dark golf course adjacent to the hatchery,

the color purple of a faded sign in a small town. I always tell my

row of piglets that slept or burrowed and squeaked

to accumulate inventory without selling it,

while the sand seeped in the cracks and knotholes and the granular hiss sang

always solid and is the one thing we all can remember about our day.
