A Hog of a Swell

Dragging his muscle to work, carving his mind open with idea

produced no response. Glancing through a window, he didn't see

tea, pastries, yogurt. She hands him a memo and he scans it quickly

as a kind of standing rebuke to all those who had let themselves go

out of the ward, lighting all before her. She waited on the stairs

and sent them downstairs to the calligrapher for place cards

brought up on deck. A little haze of brown in the mist. An indistinct

privilege of walking by the river in nature's company owed as much

dishtowels from one another’s shoulders. The state of the farm. The pulse

entered the room, looking about with a befuddled expression, which

wasn’t a top but a tower, a still spindle upon which all of existence moved.
